Projeto Predict: Vale presents fatigue prevention results with Dersalis at Vale Summit 2026

On August 5, 2026, Raquel Amorim, operations analyst for ship loading at the Port of Tubarão, and Yuzo Igarashi, representing Serra Leste, presented at Vale Summit 2026 the results of Projeto Predict, Vale’s initiative to prevent fatigue in its operations. The project was developed jointly by the Port of Tubarão and Serra Leste and used the Dersalis solution to follow operators’ physiological signals throughout the shift, instead of relying only on self-assessment or cameras.
Key results
- Up to 2h40 earlier than the technologies used today.
- 91.7% accuracy in anticipation, compared with current methods.
- 50% less time exposed to physiological risk.
- 76% less time at critical severity.
- 58% less progression to the maximum fatigue level.
Field validation
The solution was validated over 2 to 3 months at two Vale sites, covering 90 operators and more than 3,800 monitored hours.
| Site | Operators | Hours monitored |
|---|---|---|
| Serra Leste | 36 | 688 h |
| Tubarão Terminal | 54 | 3,125 h |
| Total | 90 | 3,813 h |
What changes for process safety
- Less subjectivity: operational decisions can rely on objective physiological data.
- Control of critical risk: action is taken before sleepiness shows in behavior or sustained attention is lost.
- Proactive indicators: time exposed to risk, fatigue severity level, pre-fatigue, breaks and physiological recovery.
- Scale: the solution applies to any setting with fatigue and sleepiness risk and has already been tested in different environments.
About the presentation
In her post about the presentation, Raquel highlighted that the project addresses “a topic that reinforces the importance of safety and of caring for people” (translated from Portuguese). Her post, with photos from the stage, is below.
“On behalf of Dersalis, we are immensely happy to have contributed,” said Pedro Guizardi, CEO of Dersalis.
